Cauliflower Pizza Crust Recipe
We've tried making cauliflower pizza crusts a few times and even though the flavor has always been good it usually ends up more like a pizza flavored rice bowl than an actual slice of pizza. Until now! The key is really squeezing out as much water as possible from your cauliflower before you press it into a crust. Here's a little video clip of how we do it and our favorite recipe.
Step 1: Cut your cauliflower up into small pieces removing most of the thick stem and focusing on the florets. Rinse it and pat it dry before placing it into your food processor and pulsing it into cauliflower rice. It should look like fluffy snow.
Step 2: Place the cauliflower rice in a pan and warm over medium heat about 5-8 minutes to help dry it out a little more. If you have a microwave you can also microwave it for about 3 minutes. Pour your cooked cauliflower out onto a tea towel and let it cool a few minutes before wrapping it up and wringing it out over the sink. You should get A LOT of water out! Check out the video I posted at the top of this recipe to see how much water we were able to squeeze out. When you take it out of the tea towel it should now look more like dough.
Step 3: Add your seasonings and mix-ins and press out your "crust".
1/4 teaspoon of pink Himalayan sea salt
1/2 teaspoon each of dried basil, oregano, garlic powder and crushed red pepper flakes
1 egg
2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast
2 tablespoons of almond flour
1 tablespoon of coconut oil (melted)
Mix it all together with your hands then pat it out onto a lightly greased piece of parchment paper. Make sure not to leave it too thick or it will stay soggy in the middle when you cook it.
Step 4: Transfer your parchment paper and crust onto a baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on it. You want it to be a nice golden brown and mostly cooked through.
Step 5: Remove it from the oven and top with your favorite toppings. We used crushed tomatoes and sprinkled with sea salt, black pepper, oregano and garlic powder for extra flavor. Then added greens, tomato slices and a few slices of fresh goat cheese mozzarella. Sprinkled it all with a little more oregano and put it back in the oven to bake for about 8 more minutes.
That's it. It's really pretty fun and easy to make and the kids can even help. Everyone loved the flavor and we were able to actually cut this into slices and eat it like traditional pizza.
