Turmeric Tea Recipe & Health Benefits

Immune-boosting Turmeric Tea Recipe by Coach Calie Calabrese

This easy and pretty tasty little tea packs a super powerful health punch. When I say tasty, I mean surprisingly tasty for a potent herb and not lick your lips and pour me another glass tasty - just so were on the same page. Ha!

It takes less than 5 minutes to whip up a frothy cuppa (I've been reading World War II novels set in London and "cuppa" is my new favorite phrase for "let's have some tea"). Here are just a few reasons to drink Turmeric Tea more regularly and my favorite recipe.

  1. Natural liver support that can aid in detoxing. Rumor has it, the liver is the seat of anger in the body. Who doesn't want to flush that junk out?

  2. Promotes a healthy inflammation response in the body. Inflammation is a precursor to many if not every illness so anything that can help our body have a healthy inflammatory response will also support general health and well-being.

  3. Supports healthy weight and metabolism function. Yay!

  4. Supports healthy digestion and is soothing to the stomach and digestive tract.

  5. According to Dr. Andrew Weil, elderly villagers in India who eat turmeric daily have the lowest rates of Alzheimer's disease in the world.

You can make this tea with just 4 cups of water and a teaspoon of powdered organic turmeric. Simmer for about 10 minutes (do not boil), strain and add a teaspoon of honey to taste. This recipe is healthy and takes minimal effort and ingredients, but in my opinion, not very tasty. Here's how I like to make my turmeric tea.

Ingredients:

1 can of organic full fat coconut milk (or 3 cups of homemade coconut milk if you like to make your own.)
1 teaspoon of organic turmeric powder
1 teaspoon of organic cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of organic ginger powder
sprinkle of black pepper to help with absorption

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a blender and whip together until well blended and smooth. You can also whip them in the pan with a whisk but the blender makes it smoother and more frothy. Pour into a small sauce pan and simmer for about 5 minutes until warm, but not boiling. Drink immediately.
