DIY Dry Shampoo

DIY dry shampoo recipe

Let's keep this short and sweet. It only takes a minute to read the ingredients and warnings on the backs of most dry shampoo bottles to know these are not ingredients we should be putting on our scalp!

I'm head over heels for this homemade dry shampoo. I've given it as gifts to several friends and they always ask for refills when it runs out. It smells divine and gives my hair lots of body. Plus, it's great at absorbing excess oil. As a barre instructor, who is in the studio daily, I have put this DIY dry shampoo to the test and it hasn't failed me yet. The best part, it's just a few easy ingredients you can find in most grocery stores plus 3 of my favorite essential oils.

DIY Dry Shampoo Ingredients

Blonde Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Arrowroot powder

  • 2 drops lavender essential oil

  • 2 drops rosemary essential oil

  • 2 drops peppermint essential oil

Brunette Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons Arrowroot powder

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

  • 2 drops lavender essential oil

  • 2 drops rosemary essential oil

  • 2 drops peppermint essential oil

DIY Dry Shampoo ingredients in food processor

Directions

Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until well combined. Store in a small glass mason jar and apply to roots as needed with a large blush brush. Or, place in an old glass salt shaker and sprinkle on roots and work through hair with your fingers.

Purchasing essential oils can be overwhelming and confusing. As they've grown in popularity the number of companies and oils have multiplied exponentially, but not all oils are created equally. I spent over a year deciding on which brand was safest for our family and I've now been using this brand exclusively for 3+ years. I get all my oils at discounted, wholesale pricing and you can too! Email me here to find out how or check back on our essential oil page October 1 for all the details. We can't wait to share!
